SatixFy leverages CEVA-XC DSP to develop a low-cost, multi-standard broadband satellite SoC targeting fixed and mobile applications.
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Oct. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — CEVA, Inc. (NASDAQ: CEVA), the leading licensor of silicon intellectual property (SIP) platform solutions and DSP cores, today announced that SatixFy, a fabless semiconductor company specializing in the development of cost–effective SoCs for satellite communications, has licensed the CEVA-XC DSP to power its latest satellite baseband SoC aimed at bringing affordable, high performance satellite communications to the fixed and mobile broadband markets.
Historically, the costs associated with VSAT devices has resulted in a low adoption rate of broadband satellite products. Focusing on reducing the cost of these devices SatixFy has leveraged the flexibility and programmability of the CEVA-XC DSP to develop a single SoC capable of addressing multiple markets, namely fixed broadband, consumer satellite broadband, mobile broadband and mobile TV & radio. The SoC can be upgraded over the air via software running on the CEVA-XC, covering existing and future markets and standards, including the up and coming SAT>IP communication standard which aims to make satellite services available on any IP-enabled device.
“The CEVA-XC DSP delivers outstanding performance and flexibility required to power our multi-standard broadband satellite SoC,” said Yoel Gat, CEO of SatixFy. “Addressing multiple end markets with a single SoC allows us to significantly lower the cost of satellite terminal devices and proliferate the use of broadband satellite in consumer applications. Furthermore, CEVA’s silicon-based software development platform provides us with a real-time environment in which to develop and optimize our software, fundamentally reducing the time-to-market and development risks associated with bringing our product to market.”
“SatixFy are addressing the broadband satellite market with a very unique communications SoC,” said Eran Briman , vice president of marketing at CEVA. “Our CEVA-XC DSP not only serves to lower the overall cost and reduce power consumption of satellite devices, but also allows SatixFy to implement their own proprietary software in the chip design, further differentiating themselves in the market. This latest license agreement extends the market reach of our flagship communications DSP to include satellite applications, illustrating the flexibility and suitability of the architecture to support any communication and broadcast standard.”
